Steve Baker is hoping to deliver the final mixes of the soundtrack music on New Year's Eve.

Today, he e-mailed me an MP3 of the title music which in the next day or so I will import and sync up. Rather looking forward to that.

Further news on the sound front... an acquaintance of the Baker Man is a foley wiz and has said we can help roadtest his new studio. Clicks and footsteps, here we come! This should happen early in the new year.

It was our Humble Subject, Dick's birthday yesterday. I have been acting as his Industry Mentor for his Multimedia & Design course and on the 11th he showed me his folio ( to see some of his nice, strong, quirky, retro illustrations and layout skills.) Particularly nice was the Lost Highways Presentation he did with Director - simple, clean - nicely preserving the values of the book of photos that inspired our doco.

Production of the film is now probably going for a year.

I'll put together some notes on the dates and locations of the original shoots...

Well it has been a while since I wrote in an update. Have had to really knuckle down to my classical piano studies and I'm afraid LH suffered as a consequence.

Started work on a track called "testy". A dub reggae experiment. The new delay unit helps although I am struggling to find a way of effecting samples. Today I cut a basic beat pattern and added a piano track.

More work on testy today. Added a Fender Rhodes base line but dropped it as it wasn't quite right.

Recieved Simon's music reference CD with a few dub tracks on it. Most have vocals on them which really fill them out. Makes testy sound a little sparse. I tried a few test mixes today, but only fooling around.

More frustrating testy experiments. I really want a nice dub bass sound but I don't have a bass! Trying to cut something up but it's not working well. Went back to opening titles work and finished the final music track. This only needs to be tidied up and mixed to be completed.

More failed attempts at testy.

Logged some of my alternative mix tracks today for possible inclusion in LH. Wrote out a list of instruments needed for each track.

Added some vocal fx to opening titles, am hoping to use this during closing titles (a remix of opening titles). Copied the sounds to end of program.

I've added so much to Opening titles that I am getting skipping when I try to sync with the video CD. I'm going to have to do timings and mix blind, then compare the mixed track to the video.

Completely remade testy tonight with a new bass sample. Sounds OK but I'm going to have to re edit the drum track to suit.

Mixed off opening titles tonight! Sounds great (I think). Spent about 1 1/2 hours playing around with rough mixes and checking against picture then wrote the automation data for volume and pan. Did a mix and then laied the mix track up against picture. Nice to have it finished.

Started cutting end title music tonight. It is much longer than opening titles and I am keen to make it as different as possible so it will take a little bit of time to edit it into shape.

More end title editing.

Finished “End Titles” music tonight. Basically a re-edit of the opening titles with more components and more fleshed out musically - so it stands on its own rather than supporting vision.

Took a lot of fiddling to match up everything as I had to mix then check against vision then remix, etc. I've made the cue longer so that extra credits can be added by Simon as needed.

Spent a little time packaging everything up to take to Melbourne for Simon tomorrow.

Steve B (down from Bendigo), dropped in to the office with the title & credits music on a Mac Zip disk. For convoluted reasons, I won't be able to do anything with it for a couple of days.
